There are five ways to pay tolls incurred on The Toll Roads:

  • FasTrak®
  • Charge ExpressAccount®
  • Invoice ExpressAccount®
  • Pay Tolls Online

FasTrak tolls are $1 less than the account toll rate. And, a FasTrak transponder allows accountholders to pay tolls electronically on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California. FasTrak drivers affix the transponder to their vehicle's windshield and when they pass through a tolling point the toll is automatically deducted from their account, which is prepaid using credit card, check or cash.

Currently there are two ExpressAccount types that allow for electronic toll payment without a FasTrak transponder. Photos of a vehicle's license plates are used to record transactions and tolls are charged to a credit card (Charge ExpressAccount) or invoiced at the end of the month (Invoice ExpressAccount). An ExpressAccount may only be used to pay tolls on the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads. The ExpressAccount toll is the account toll rate. Note: Starting July 1, 2019, ExpressAccounts will begin the upgrade to FasTrak.  FasTrak offers the convenience of ExpressAccounts, but with added perks, like the ability to drive any tolled bridge, lane or road in California. The transition will be complete by October 1, 2019.

The option to pay tolls online was created for area visitors and infrequent users of The Toll Roads. Within 5 days before or 5 days after driving The Toll Roads, tolls can be paid using The Toll Roads free app or online at TheTollRoads.com.

You can return your transponder(s) via certified or registered mail to: .
P.O. Box 57011
Irvine, CA 92619-7011
Or
Return your transponder(s) in person at our Service Center:
125 Pacifica, Suite 120
Irvine, CA 92618-3324

You can sign up for FasTrak, via our free app, at one of our Customer Service Centers or by calling (949) 727-4800. A FasTrak account can be established with cash, check, money order, credit card or electronic check and monthly statements are sent via email. A $2 account maintenance fee is assessed monthly per transponder, but waived for each $25 incurred in tolls on The Toll Roads (State Routes 73, 133, 241 and 261).

For FasTrak accounts established and replenished with cash, check or money order a $30 deposit is required for each transponder and a minimum of $45 in tolls must be prepaid. When a FasTrak account's balance falls below 10 days' worth of tolls it must be replenished in the amount of one month's tolls (based upon average usage). For infrequent drivers, when the account balance falls to $15, a minimum replenishment payment of $45 must be made.

For FasTrak accounts established and replenished with a credit card or electronic check, no deposit for transponders is required and a minimum of $30 in tolls must be prepaid. When a FasTrak account's balance falls below 10 days' worth of tolls it will be replenished in the amount of one month's tolls (based upon average usage). For infrequent drivers, their credit card will be debited a minimum of $30 when their balance reaches $10.

FasTrak statements are emailed monthly. Print statements are no longer available to new accountholders, but are mailed quarterly to longstanding accountholders. Print statements will be phased out soon and unavailable for all accountholders.

To sign up for e-statements:

a. Log in to your account.
b. Click on "Statement & Activity" on the left menu bar.

You most likely received a violation because your transponder failed to read and your license plate is not on file with the 91 Express Lanes. To resolve the violation, you should:

  • Contact the tolling agency that you have your FasTrak account with to update your vehicle information and check the status of your account.
  • Obtain a "Certification of Account" for the dates of the violation. This certification essentially states that your FasTrak account was in good standing on the date the violation(s) occurred.
  • Mail the certification and a check for the toll amount due to "The Toll Roads" in the envelope provided with the violation notice.

To prevent future violations, make sure your FasTrak account is updated with new vehicle license plates. Also, make sure your transponder is properly mounted to your windshield for reading.

Save your Confirmation Number and click here to change the end date of your rental period for up to seven more days. Be sure to extend the end date before the original time period lapses to avoid penalties and fees.

If you aren’t sure where you entered or exited The Toll Roads, you can select the “Calculate My Toll(s) For Me” option. Or, under the “I’ll Calculate My Toll(s) option select “Unknown” from the drop down menu as your entry and exit point.

The Invoice ExpressAccount payment options can be established and replenished with cash at The Toll Roads Customer Service Center in Irvine.  Note: Starting July 1, 2019, ExpressAccounts will begin the upgrade to FasTrak.  The name of the account will change, but the payment method will remain the same. This transition will provide more perks to ExpressAccount accountholders.  The transition will be complete by October 1, 2019.

Motorcycles pay the same toll as a two-axle vehicle on The Toll Roads. Motorcyclists can use FasTrak, an ExpressAccount and One-Time-Toll to pay. Be sure to keep the transponder in a secure location, such as in a pocket or bag.

You should be receiving a Notice of Toll Evasion in the mail soon. If it was your first time driving The Toll Roads without paying, the notice will include information on how to pay the toll only (without penalties).

If a driver uses The Toll Roads and does not use FasTrak®, an ExpressAccount® or One-Time-Toll® to pay tolls incurred on the trip, a violation will be processed for each transaction. A violation penalty will be assessed in addition to the toll, consistent with our current policy for non-payment.

To meet our obligation to collect tolls for every vehicle that uses The Toll Roads, a violation enforcement process is in place:

  • If a driver passes through a tolled location without paying using FasTrak, an ExpressAccount or One-Time-Toll, pictures of the vehicle are taken.
  • These pictures are reviewed and the plate information is sent to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The DMV provides the name and address of the registered owner. The registered owner will receive a violation notice in the mail (usually within two weeks).
  • Each violation transaction is assessed a $57.50 penalty in addition to the toll amount due. If the registered owner has no previous violations, the penalties will be waived. This is a courtesy for first time violators only.
  • If a driver fails to respond as outlined in the violation notice, an additional $42.50 penalty may be assessed and a hold may be placed on the vehicle's registration.
  • Violation notices are mailed to the address the DMV has on file for the vehicle at the time of the violation.

If you have questions, please call our Violations Department at (949) 727-4800.

The two ExpressAccount types allow for easy electronic toll payment without a FasTrak transponder. Photos of a vehicle's license plates are used to record transactions and tolls are charged to a credit card (Charge ExpressAccount)) or invoiced at the end of the month (Invoice ExpressAccount). An ExpressAccount may only be used on the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads. The ExpressAccount toll is the account toll rate.

Note: Starting July 1, 2019, ExpressAccounts will begin the upgrade to FasTrak. The name of the account will change, but the payment method will remain the same.  This transition will provide more perks to  ExpressAccount accountholders.  The transition will be complete by October 1, 2019.

FasTrak is the preferred method of payment on The Toll Roads - with 87 percent of drivers using it to pay the lowest toll rates and pay tolls electronically on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California. FasTrak drivers affix a transponder to their vehicle's windshield and when they pass through a tolling point the toll is automatically deducted from their account, which is prepaid using credit card, check or cash.

Each violation is assessed a $57.50 penalty in addition to the toll amount due. For example, if you did not pay the required toll to pass through the 241 Toll Road's Windy Ridge Toll Point during the weekend, you would be required to pay $61.00 - a $57.50 penalty plus the $3.50 toll (weekend toll rate).

If you fail to respond to the first violation notice, a second violation notice will be mailed to you with an additional $42.50 penalty. Failure to respond to the second notice could result in a DMV hold being put on the vehicle's registration.

If the driver does not have FasTrak or an ExpressAccount and does not use the One-Time-Toll payment option, a violation will be processed for each transaction. A violation penalty will be assessed in addition to the toll, consistent with our current policy for non-payment.

Report a lost or stolen transponder as soon as possible by logging in to your account online  and using the "Transponder" tab. You will not be responsible for any unauthorized charges incurred after you notify us. However, there is a $30 charge per missing transponder.

We will begin distributing FasTrak sticker transponders to new and existing accountholders, at no charge, in June 2019.

You can use your FasTrak transponder to pay tolls electronically throughout the state wherever you see the FasTrak logo. It's important to get a transponder from the agency that operates the road, lane or bridge that you will use most.  Each tolling agency has its own rules and minimum requirements.

To learn more about each agency visit their website:

Registering your rental car with The Toll Roads will ONLY cover tolls for the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads in Orange County.

The following California toll facilities WILL NOT accept this payment method:

  • 91 Express Lanes in Orange County
  • 10/110 Metro ExpressLanes in Los Angeles
  • 125 South Bay Expressway in San Diego
  • I-15 Express Lanes in San Diego
  • I-580 and I-680 Express Lanes in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Toll bridges in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Golden Gate Bridge

A FasTrak sticker transponder can be used to pay tolls electronically on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California.

The Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) are two joint powers authorities formed by the California legislature in 1986 to plan, finance, construct and operate Orange County's 67-mile public toll road system. Fifty-one miles of the system are complete, including the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads. The Toll Roads - which are owned and maintained by the state of California -- were built with virtually no taxpayer dollars.

The new sticker transponders cost significantly less than the battery-operated hard-case transponder currently used to collect tolls electronically in the state. With introduction of this new technology we will be passing the cost savings to its FasTrak accountholders, by ending the current monthly account maintenance fee.
